The Process begins by downloading a photo from either a camera, email,
or scanning the original photo.
From this point I utilize various software programs to enhance the image to resemble a painting.
Once I am satisfied with the computer enhanced image I print it.
All images are printed on an Epson printer using Epson Eight-Color UltraChrome pigment inkset.
When combined with a heavy weight photo paper the end result is a fade-resistant image lasting up to
100-200 years.

The next step in The Process is the mounting.
The print is applied to a mounting board then subject to 24 hours of extreme pressure to ensure that the print
and the mounting board become permanently bonded together.

The mounted work is now ready for the final step that will transform the image into a work of art that resembles an oil painting in
both look and touch.

Texturing

A blend of 100% Acrylic Polymer Emulsion is hand applied to the
print in numerous layers to achieve the look and feel of an
Expensive Oil Painting.
Each layer is allowed ample time to dry before the next layer is
applied. It often take several weeks to achieve the desired effects.
When the work is finished it has excellent flexibility, resistance to chemicals, water, abrasion and ultraviolet radiation.

After the Acrylic Polymer is applied to the mounted print it creates
a permanent protective seal between the print and the elements
thus preventing common photo damage and fading.
In fact… It is so protected you can safely use a
wet cloth to clean it!

We have owned quite a number of dogs over the years, but have had Collies exclusively for the past 22 years. We have taken innumerable photos and have had perhaps a half dozen attempts at turning one
of them into a painting. None have been really successful even
though some were quite expensive.
Just recently, however, we really believe we have found the answer.
Using modern computer technology and a lot of personal skill,
Mr. Carl V Holgate can turn a photograph into a work of
art that would absolutely fascinate Michelangelo!
